It empowers people of all shapes and sizes by connecting the body, mind, emotions and spirit. Classes are taken barefoot to soul-stirring music in more than 45 countries worldwide. Trainings are designed for those seeking personal enrichment and professional development. Every experience can be adapted to individual needs and abilities. Who created Nia®? Nia® was created in the early 1980’s by Debbie Rosas and Carlos AyaRosas, who were, at that time, fitness professionals in Marin County, California, searching for a better, more meaningful way to workout and stay fit. How does Nia® work? Nia® draws from disciplines of the martial arts, dance arts and healing arts. Every class offers a unique combination of 52 moves that correspond with the main areas of the body: the base, the core and the upper extremities. Participants from all fitness levels ranging from beginners to highly fit athletes can adapt Nia® to meet their needs by choosing from three intensity levels. Consecutive trainings collectively explore 52 principles for personal enrichment and professional development. What are people saying about Nia®? Read testimonialsfrom people of all ages, backgrounds and locations. Don't forget to check out our Testimonial Page! Does Nia® require special equipment? No. Nia® was designed to be performed in bare feet to improve balance and stability. While barefoot, our body receives messages from our proprioceptors- special nerves which relay information to the brain about our movement and position. Stronger arches, more stable ankles and knees, and better posture are the result. You are welcome to wear footwear. If you choose to, we suggest soft-thin soled shoes such as ballet slippers, jazz shoes, or Yoga Stick-e socks as good alternatives. Follow your body's way and what feels best to you. *Yoga mats are always welcome for floor-play movements. Where can I find Nia®?
